There have been various periods where a system, any system, has ruled totally over a known human area.
In antiquity, there have been many incredible civilisations, that have done amazing things.

And then they disappear. For good.
And for some reason, no-one picks up the torch and runs with it. No one is interested.
Its gone...and its gone for good.

Lots of civilisations, that did amazing things.
So why did they disappear??
Greeks.Romans.Egypt.Mexico.South America.Middle east.Far East.
They're all gone...gone.

Every.single.one.of.them.

No civilisation seems to have seriously outlived 1000 years. None of them.

We have had wars and systems in this century for example(last 100 years).

Nazism. Communism. Vietnam.

NOT ONE of these events, despite the massive human effort involved in each conflict or effort, has altered the basic movement forwards of the underlying human civilisations that propped up these systems, or opposed them, or ignored them.

Its as if these systems, and their apologists, come and go, like the wind.
Rome.Communism.Capitalism. Yada yada yada.

But only a MINORITY crave power and glory.
MOST of us only want to get the Fuk on with life, have kids, feed em, enjoy whats left.

Religion survives because of its simplicity, and adaptability for the tribe.(Yup.Tribe.)

But the human collective endures throughout all these efforts at permanent control, and trundles onwards towards its destiny.

Whatever the heck that is...

I think our own destiny ends with nuclear haulocaust. Maybe not this generation or the next, but it seems inevitable IMO.

We've been there, and done that.
Can't you see?

USA/USSR...
The Cuban crisis.

Pakistan/India
Both have nukes.
Serious hate. Total hate. but no Armageddon...

How come?

Because of total and utter annihilation...

You can only exercise power, if you exist, you're country exists, and your brand of human culture exists.

Lets call it a combination of cowardice and human vanity, coupled with a keen sense of practicality.

Common sense will prevail when the chips are laid on the table.

Politics is a practical business, anything that interferes, will not be encouraged.

A small planet circling Proxima Centauri is visited by a spacefaring lifeform some 10,000 years hence. There they discover a sophisticated culture that produces more individuals by mining and smelting iron ore and constructing silicon based processing devices.

How such a culture that is itself exploring and expanding through space could ever have evolved is totally beyond the understanding of the visiting life form.

Nor do the residents understand exactly how they evolved although at the very core of their being lies a central truth called MSDOS.
